Jyothi Yarraji is a prominent Indian track and field athlete specializing in the 100-meter hurdles, who gained significant attention in 2015 after winning a gold medal at an Andhra Pradesh inter-district meet. Throughout 2022, Jyothi also represented India at the Commonwealth Games and was part of the Indian Women's 4x100 meters relay team that finished fifth in the finals. She won gold in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2022 National Games. She also became the first Indian woman hurdler to clock below 13 seconds.
Jyothi's career highlight came at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, where she won a silver medal in the 100m hurdles despite initial disqualification for a false start. Her achievement marked a significant milestone in her career.
In early 2023, she further broke the national record for indoor 60-meter hurdles five times, winning silver at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Kazakhstan.
Jyothi clinched gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok with a time of 13.08 seconds. She also secured a silver medal in the women's 200m with a personal best of 23.13 seconds.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic and a back injury in 2020 disrupted her plans, causing her to miss most of the 2021 season. However, she made a strong comeback in 2022, starting with a series of improved timings.
